Is this the beginning of the end of the Myles Garrett era in Cleveland?

Well…. all good things must come to an end, right? That is how some Cleveland Browns fans feel after Myles Garrett’s press conference yesterday. In the wake of an extremely forgettable season, Myles seemingly speaks his mind about the season as a whole and the future.

Garrett, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, was asked if he wants to stay in Cleveland long term. He said yes, but that the team has to have an immediate plan to win. He also stated that he did not want to be part of a rebuild, sending a clear message to the front office about how he wants the next few seasons to go. He also said “names on paper don’t win games…dollar signs don’t win games..”… Which some could infer this is a shot at Deshaun Watson, who has been an expensive failure in Cleveland. We will likely never know if Garrett actually likes Watson, but my gut says he’s tired of him under center in Cleveland.

I know some fans may hear these comments and freak out. But to be honest, it is nice seeing Myles speak the truth and talk exactly how a lot of Browns fans feel. Him sending a message like this to the front office is huge, it could even make a difference with who is playing QB for Cleveland next year. Myles has been a quiet leader for too long, and it’s about time he spoke his mind with some harsh truths and harsh realities.

Overall, I would love to see Myles Garrett finish his career in Cleveland. He is a future Hall of Famer and will go down as one of the best Defensive Ends ever. But I also see both sides. If ownership and the front office keep doing the same song and dance and he can’t be on a team that wins games, I really wouldn’t blame him for leaving. It would be sad, but I’d understand.

I would rather see him chase a ring than play in meaningless games for the next 5+ years. We know that Joe Thomas turned down winning a ring with Peyton Manning to stay in Cleveland, and we love him for that. Personally, I don’t want to see that happen again with another Browns legend. If the front office doesn’t take into account what Myles is saying, don’t be surprised if he finishes his career elsewhere.
