Iceland Travel Recommendations

The world is full of so many beautiful travel destinations. Out of all the places I have been, I think of my trip to Iceland the most. The country offers so much to do, from gorgeous scenery to good food and pleasant people, it will be a country that you do not wanna leave. If you’re thinking of going, below are some useful recommendations that will make your trip one to remember.

First off, I wanna start with my top restaurant that you have to try if you spend time in Reykjavik. It is called Grillmarkaðurinn and it is located downtown. The atmosphere, service, and overall vibe is incredible. I had the Reindeer sliders as my appetizer (pictured above), and they were so flavorful. The steak is top tier there as well. If you’re wondering how pricey it is, I will say be prepared to spend a pretty penny. But honestly, that is how Iceland is in general. This place is worth your money and time. Check it out.

Before you leave Reykjavik, you have to check out the Blue Lagoon resort. There is a travel hack I have for this one. So there are two lagoons, the main one that is large in size and full of tourists. It is very cool, but very busy and that can take away from the experience a bit. I stayed in the Silica Hotel instead of the main lagoon. It was much better for a few reasons.

The first one is that it is way more private and it has its own small lagoon. There are way less people there, so it becomes a very peaceful experience. The hotel is very nice and is more affordable than the main lagoon. In addition to that, you can still get access to the main lagoon and it is a short walk over to it. Take my advice here. Stay at the Silica instead. You won’t regret it.

The best thing to do in Iceland is get a rental car so you can drive all over the country. Reykjavik is awesome, but the true beauty is hours outside of the city. The Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach is absolutely incredible. Located about 2 and a half hours outside of Reykjavik, the drive only adds to your experience. There are so many waterfalls on the way and at times it feels like you’re on a different planet.

After you leave the black sand beach, drive a few more hours further away from the capital and you’ll find one of the most unique experiences in the world: The Glacier Lagoon. It is located in Jokulsarlon. There isn’t a whole lot to do as you get this far away, but the lagoon itself is worth the drive.

The glacier pieces floating in the water will take your breath away. If you’re lucky like me, you’ll even see a few seals swimming near them. The lagoon meets with the ocean, which leads to the Diamond Beach where large pieces of ice wash up on the shore.

Overall, Iceland offers some of the most unique experiences in the world. I know so many people that have been there multiple times, and I can say that I will be back at some point in my life. There is so much to do and so much to see. I say give yourself at least week when you go. Put Iceland high on your list!
